25 Jun Cleveland Cavs Draft Christian Eyenga with the 30th Pick
Positives:
- NBA body
- Excellent athlete
- Explosive leaper
- Quick and physical defender
- Emerging perimeter game
Negatives:
- Lacks a high basketball IQ
- Raw
The best thing is that most of the other sites I have reviewed have said his biggest weaknesses are that he needs more time to develop. The Cavs plan to get older for this season, but somewhere down the line they will need to replace players and Eyenga can do that in a few years (at least I'm trying to put a positive spin on at).

Opera Turns Your Computer Into a Server
Today Opera has released a product (as promised), which it claims reinvents the web. That may seem like an exaggerated statement, but it's an interesting concept nonetheless.
The product is called Opera Unite, and it is available at labs.opera.com. What Opera Unite does, is basically turn your computer into both a client and a server. It eliminates the need for third-party servers.
"Today, we are opening the full potential of the Web for everyone," says Opera CEO Jon von Tetzchner. "Technology moves in distinct cycles. PCs decentralized computing away from large mainframes. Opera Unite now decentralizes and democratizes the cloud. With server capability in the browser, Web developers can create Web applications with profound ease. Consumers have the flexibility to choose private and efficient ways of sharing information. We believe Opera Unite is one of our most significant innovations yet, because it changes forever the fundamental fabric of the Web."
Current Opera Unite services include file sharing, web server, media player, photo sharing, chat, and "the fridge," which allows users to post notes on their friends' "virtual refrigerators." I'm thinking this is basically like Facebook's "wall."
Here are some screenshots of what these services look like:
File Sharing

Web Server
Media Player
Photo Sharing
Chat
The Fridge
"What interests me about Opera Unite is how current technology and the social world are now interconnected," says Molly E. Holzschlag, Web evangelist for Opera. "Using open standards including HTML, CSS and JavaScript, developers and even enthusiasts with a little standards savvy can make their own Opera Unite service. Opera Unite allows people the ability to be imaginative with their skills and create a wide range of technical and social applications using the same open standards used today."
It seems that it is a little early for there to be any concrete opinions from users formed at this point. The Twitterverse appears to interested in the product, but a little unsure of what to expect (even those who have already downloaded it). Some have compared it to Google Wave, only with one being on the desktop, and the other on the web.
What are your initial thoughts on Opera Unite? Does this really "reinvent the web?" Tell us what you think.
Survey: 62% Prefer iPods to the Environment
The Shelton Group has released some interesting survey results showing that the majority of Americans would like to "go green," but not at the expense of their own convenience. It's not that the results are particularly surprising, but they are interesting in that they are broken down into what percentage of participants would be willing to give up what devices if they could help the environment.
"Consumers don't want to give up the modern conveniences of life," said Suzanne Shelton, whose firm conducted the survey. "We're all basically saying, 'I'll be green as long it doesn’t make me uncomfortable or inconvenienced.'"

Here's how many would be willing to give up each of the following conveniences:
- iPod – 38%
- Dishwasher – 35%
- Microwave – 25%
- Cellular phone – 21%
- Air conditioning – 14%
- TV – 13%
- Computer – 7%
- Car – 6%
- None of the above – 21%
- All of the above – 6%
I find it interesting that more people are willing to give up their microwaves than their cell phones. I know these new smartphones are cool, but can they cook a meal in three and a half minutes?
"For most Americans, what once were considered conveniences have become necessities," Shelton said. "That means the green movement has its work cut out for it: Convenience and comfort are big barriers for consumers going green."
"It means a lot of people simply won’t take on green projects, or buy a green product if they have to go to a different store to find it or if it somehow takes away from their personal comfort," Shelton added.
The survey polled 1,006 consumers from across the United States. 60% of them are looking for greener products, but when asked to choose between comfort, convenience, and the environment, they chose 36%, 38%, and 26% respectively.
Would you give up any of the aforementioned items if you knew it would help the environment? What is more important to you, convenience, comfort, or the environment? Discuss in the comments.
Google Voice Invitations Going Out Today
Google Voice is moving forward. Whereas the application was just available to users of GrandCentral (a service Google acquired in mid-2007), all of the people who have requested access should now (or at some point in the near future) be receiving invitation emails.
A post on the Official Google Blog instructs would-be users on what to do next. "Once you receive your invitation, just click on the link and follow the instructions to setup your new Voice account. To help you find a Google number that is personalized to you, we've added a number picker that lets you search by area code and text. See if you can find a number that contains your name, a specific word or a number combination."
Then here are two important notes. First, if you haven't filed a request, it's not too late. A page is ready to accept names and email addresses, and you'll be added to whatever sort of waitlist Google's working through.
Second, there was actually a segment about Google Voice on the "Today" show this morning, and since there would be little point in teasing everyone with a years-away piece of technology, it's possible that Google will do away with the waitlist and make Google Voice universally available in the near future.

The video below does a quick job of explaining how Google Voice works if you by some change haven't heard of it or are interested in a refresher.
Close To Half Of Americans Would Drop Mobile Plans
Faced with the need to cutback on household expenses, forty-eight percent of Americans would drop their mobile data plan completely, while only 10 percent would cancel their home broadband subscription, according to new research by Strategy Analytics.
"Given the extraordinary importance consumers place on home broadband, we fully expected broadband to have a high 'keep rate,'" said Ben Piper, Director of the Strategy Analytics Multiplay Market Dynamics Service. "What surprised us was the vulnerability of mobile services."
In the same situation, 12 percent of Americans said they would drop their pay-TV service completely, while 41 percent said they would switch to a less expensive subscription plan. More than half (56%) of respondents said they would make no changes to their home fixed voice service, compared to 51 percent for mobile voice.

"These results suggest that, while American consumers consider home broadband service to be a vital utility, they see mobile data service as simply a 'nice to have,'" said David Mercer, Vice-President of the Strategy Analytics Digital Consumer Practice.
The study, conducted in early June, surveyed 1,110 household decision makers about their multiplay spending intentions over the next year, the impact of the economy on household entertainment purchases, and the relative importance of each component.
Finjan Finds Infected PCs Selling For Half A Cent
Most people know that powerful computer criminals don't all have setups similar to those of James Bond villains; a lot of damage can be done with just a little bit of outdated equipment. But a new report from Finjan drives home how very accessible botnets have become.
![]() |
| Finjan Finds Infected PCs Selling For Half A Cent |
The highest price Finjan found elsewhere was in Australia, where the same number of infected PCs go for $100. A middle-class eight-year-old might be able to handle that with his Christmas money.
This is all possible due to the existence of the Golden Cash network. A Finjan statement explains, "The trading platform utilizes all necessary components (buyer side, seller side, attack toolkit, and distribution via 'partners')." And if that sounds pretty sophisticated, the statement does continue, "This advanced trading platform marks a new milestone in the cybercrime evolution."
Yuval Ben-Itzhak, CTO of Finjan, also added, "Looking at the list of compromised PCs we found, it is clear that no individual, corporate or governmental PC is safe."
Unfortunately, such trading platforms are probably here to stay. Cybercriminals can make as much as $400 in profit off of each batch of infected PCs, and so will be sure to keep at it for as long as possible.
Finjan just recommends using a Secure Web Gateway to help stop your computers from becoming infected in the first place. The full second issue of Finjan's Cybercrime Intelligence Report (pdf) is also available for free if you'd like additional information regarding the problem.
